Thermal Insulation and Heat Preservation

1.Selection of thermal insulation materials

Because of the strong thermal conductivity of glass, in order to improve the thermal insulation performance of the roof, it is necessary to add thermal insulation materials underneath the glass roof or in the grid structure. You can choose rock wool insulation board, polystyrene foam insulation board and so on. Rock wool insulation board has good thermal insulation performance and fireproof performance, suitable for buildings with high fireproof requirements. Polystyrene foam insulation board has good thermal insulation effect, but the fireproof performance is relatively weak.

For some buildings with high requirements for thermal insulation accuracy, such as constant temperature and humidity laboratories, double glass or insulating glass can be used and filled with inert gas (such as argon) in the middle to improve thermal insulation performance. The spacing distance between the double glass, gas type and pressure will affect the insulation effect, need to be designed according to the specific insulation requirements.

2.Shading measures

In order to reduce the solar radiation heat through the glass roof into the interior, need to take shading measures. Can be set on the glass roof sunshade louvers, sunshade curtains, etc.. Sunshade louvers can be adjusted according to the position and angle of the sun, effectively blocking the sun. There are various forms of sunshade curtains, such as motorized sunshade curtains and manual sunshade curtains, etc., which can be selected under different usage scenarios.

For some roofs with coated glass, the type and performance of the coating will also affect the shading effect. For example, the use of low-e coated glass (Low-E glass) can effectively reflect solar radiation heat, while allowing visible light to pass through, in order to ensure indoor lighting, reduce indoor heat absorption.

Lighting and shading Balance

1.Lighting Design

One of the main advantages of glass roofing is good lighting performance. According to the function and use requirements of the building, the area, transparency and distribution of the glass should be reasonably determined in the design. For example, in buildings such as exhibition halls and art museums, large areas of transparent glass are needed to ensure sufficient natural lighting inside and to display the details and colors of exhibits. The optical properties of the glass are also important. It is important to choose glass with high light transmission and low reflectivity. At the same time, the dispersion phenomenon of the glass should be considered to avoid the colored light spots produced by light refraction affecting the indoor visual effect. For some of the higher quality requirements of the light of the building, you can use good optical properties of ultra-white glass and so on.

2.Shading and lighting coordination

Shading measures can reduce solar radiation heat, but it will also affect the indoor lighting. Therefore, it is necessary to find a balance between shading and lighting. Adjustable shading devices, such as intelligent shading systems, can be used to automatically adjust the degree of shading according to the sun’s altitude angle, indoor light intensity and other factors.

In the architectural design stage, sun shading and lighting can also be coordinated through the design of the building layout and the surrounding environment. For example, planting trees and setting awnings in the perimeter of the glass roof building, etc., to utilize natural elements to shade part of the sun, while ensuring sufficient natural lighting indoors.

Maintenance and Durability

1.Durability of Glass

Glass may have problems such as aging and self-explosion during long-term use. Tempered glass has a certain self-explosion rate, although the homogenization process can reduce the self-explosion rate, but still can not be completely avoided. In the design of the glass should be considered after the explosion of the safety measures, such as the use of laminated glass, even if the glass is broken, the fragments will be bonded in the middle of the film, and will not fall and hurt people.

The weather resistance of the glass is also a factor to be considered. Long-term exposure to the outdoor environment of the glass will be eroded by ultraviolet rays, acid rain and so on. To choose a good weathering glass varieties, such as coated glass coating layer should have a good resistance to ultraviolet light and chemical corrosion resistance, to ensure that the optical properties of glass and the appearance of the quality of the long-term use of the process will not be significantly reduced.

2.Maintenance of sealant and connecting components

Sealant in the long-term use of the process may appear aging, cracking and other phenomena. Regularly check the condition of the sealant and replace it when problems are found. The service life of the sealant is generally related to the quality of materials, environmental conditions and other factors, generally 10 – 15 years. Connecting components (such as barge claws, bolts, etc.) also require regular maintenance. Check whether the connecting components are loose, corrosion, etc., for the problems found to be timely repair or replacement. For example, stainless steel barge claws may be corroded by salt in coastal areas and require enhanced inspection and maintenance.
