Space Frame Construction in China

This chapter discusses a state-of-the-art review of the development of space frame in China, emphasizing recent progress. By space frame, it will denote both double or multiple layer space frame and lattice shells. It reviews a brief history of the development of space frame and discusses the important factors in each stage that influence the promoting of such type of structure. Space frame remains the most proliferated type of space structures, and is employed for various purposes from short to long span buildings. Applications of space frame to difference fields, such as sports buildings, public buildings, single story industrial buildings, and airplane hangars are reviewed. Some important engineering projects are taken as an example to illustrate the rapid developments. This chapter discusses the main achievements of space frame construction in China.
