How should I select a steel space frame (Ⅱ)?

The selection of space frame should be combined with the plan shape of the building, requirements, load, and span size, support situation, and economic factors such as comprehensive consideration. Usually, we divide it according to the span size: above 60m span is a large; 30m to 60m is a medium span; below 30m is a small span.

Four Corner Cone System

1. Positively placed four-cornered cone space frame

Structural characteristics: the spatial stiffness is larger than other four-cornered cone frames and two-way frames. The force is more uniform.

Application: It is suitable for the peripheral supporting space frame whose plane shape is rectangular, the side length ratio is less than 1.5, and the large-span project.

2. Positively placed evacuation quadrangular cone space frame

Structural characteristics: the spatial stiffness is smaller than that of the orthotropic quadrangular cone space frame, and the internal force of the bottom chord increases.

Application: For perimeter-supported space frames with a rectangular planform and a side-to-side ratio greater than 1.5.

3. Tessellated quadrangular cone space frame

Structural characteristics: the spatial stiffness is smaller than that of the square-placed quadrangular cone space frame, and the internal force of the lower chord bar increases. The stiffness is better when the periphery is arranged into a full cone. This kind of space frame is short of the upper chord bar under pressure and long of the lower chord bar under tension, which can give full play to the role of the rod section and the force is reasonable.

Applicability: It is suitable for perimeter-supported space frames whose plane shape is rectangular, with a side-length ratio of more than 1.5, and small and medium spans.

4. Oblique put four corners cone space frame

Structural characteristics: the spatial stiffness is smaller than that of the orthotropic quadrangular cone space frame.

Application: For perimeter-supported space frames with a rectangular planform and a side-to-side ratio greater than 1.5.

5. Star-shaped quadrangular cone space frame

Star-shaped quadrangular cone space frame

Structural Characteristics: Its stiffness is poor, and not as good as the positively placed quadrangular cone space frame. Its vertical rod is compressed, and the internal force is equal to the load of the top chord node.

Applicability: It is suitable for perimeter-supported space frames whose plane shape is rectangular, with a side length ratio less than or equal to 1.5, and with small and medium spans.
