When building a dome, the glass can be installed in several ways, depending on the design and structural requirements. Here are some common ways glass domes are installed:

Single pane glass: Simple dome structures may use a single pane of glass that is fixed directly to the supporting structure. This is suitable for smaller domes that do not require complex insulation and thermal systems.

Double Glazing: Large domes often use double or multiple layers of glass with air or other insulating materials sandwiched in between to improve thermal performance. These layers of glass can be installed through support structures or specialised glazing connection systems.

Steel Frame Structures: Some domes may require special steel frame structures to support the glass. In this case, the glass can be bolted or otherwise attached to the steel frame.

Suspension Systems: To achieve a lighter appearance and greater transparency, some designs use a suspension system where the glass is suspended from the dome structure. This usually requires specially designed suspension devices and connections.

Sealing Systems: The glass in a dome usually requires the use of sealing systems to ensure watertightness and airtightness. These systems can be rubber gaskets, silicone seals or other specialised sealing materials.

Self-cleaning coatings: To reduce cleaning efforts and maintain clarity, some dome glass may have a self-cleaning coating that reduces the adhesion of dust and dirt.

Factors such as the size and shape of the dome, climatic conditions, maintenance requirements, and budget need to be considered when designing and selecting a glass installation. Professional architects and engineers usually select the most appropriate glass installation for each situation.
