The main differences between welded ball space frame and bolted ball space frame are as follows:

1.Production quality:

Bolt ball space frame: solid ball (45# steel) and high strength bolts (40Cr) are used, which are completed by automatic welding and CNC machine tools in the production workshop, with a high degree of standardization, and the machining precision and quality are easy to ensure. The angle between the screw holes on the bolt balls is precise, and the bars have built-in 10.9S high-strength bolts, which are tensile and compressive, and the force transmission is stable and balanced.

Welded Ball Space Frame: Hollow ball and welded pipe are used to weld and butt on site, which is greatly affected by the temperature and wind speed, and the discharging and welding are manually operated, with large error and low precision. The weld is prone to quality defects such as slagging, porosity, etc. The passing rate of secondary flaw detection is low, and there is a potential safety hazard.

2.Construction:

Bolted ball space frame: not high requirements for the site, flexible construction program, short construction period, does not affect the site operation and production.

Welded ball space frame: higher requirements for the site, need open and leveled site, long construction period, large amount of on-site welding, high requirements for welders, affecting the site operation and production.

3.Welding:

Bolted ball space frame: small amount of on-site manual welding, weld in the factory automatic welding welding, can ensure the second level of flaw detection, improve the quality of installation.

Welded ball space frame: the site manual welding influencing factors, can not guarantee the weld flaw detection, affecting the quality.

4.Installation precision:

Bolted ball space rack: 70% of the workload in the factory prefabrication, 30% in the site installation, the site only need to wrench tighten bolts, easy and fast.

Welded ball space frame: The process of on-site welded ball installation is complicated, including the material according to the drawing, work release, angle measurement, positioning spot welding, full welding, cleaning and testing of welded seams, heavy workload and slow construction period.

5.Rust removal:

Bolted ball space frame: the material is mechanically shot blasting and descaling in the factory, spraying paint, with strong corrosion resistance.

Welded ball space frame: steel pipe and welded seams are descaled manually on site, and then painted, welded seams are easy to rust, and need to be descaled and painted in phases for maintenance, which increases the cost of late use.

6.Project cost:

Bolted ball space frame: the amount of steel is slightly higher, but factory-made, low cost of on-site construction machinery, no need to set up scaffolding, cost savings.

Welded ball space frame: low material cost, but the site construction volume is large, more welding equipment, high electricity costs, more senior welders, scaffolding construction platform occupies a long time, the overall lifting cost is large, so that the project cost is higher than expected.

To summarize, bolted ball space frame has obvious advantages in quality assurance, construction convenience, installation accuracy, anti-corrosion treatment and project cost, which is suitable for the project requirements of large span and shaped curve. The welded ball space frame, on the other hand, has certain advantages in material cost, but has limitations in construction period and quality control.
